As our families seek to know ourselves and each other, Our guide (Dad, Uncle, Cousin, or maybe just friend)  continues to lend his thoughts to help us along the way

Taking a Look ~ Here and Back

That is what I have done and it
causes me to wonder. I have asked myself
this question time and time again.
Who am I? Why am I here?

All of my life, I have been backward
on the outside, what I mean is amongst others.
That applies to myself as a youngster
and into my present years.

I am not putting myself down as I
see it. I look at it as facing the truths about
myself. I don’t understand me,
and yet I do. There you go.

I remind myself of an old radio/tv
program ~ “I Led Two Lives”. That was a good one!
That’s me, but not as a hero ~
quite the opposite ~ outside.

I was, am, afraid of speaking out.
Well, just a bit better now than earlier. There
is something about my ID that pulls and pushes
I think, depending on my aloneness.

When I am alone, really alone, I think
deeply into my Inner self, others and life. I assess
myself, yes, I chide Myself on what
I have done or not done and ask myself,

So yes, I lead two lives. Why is it that I cannot
make them gel, come together to make me one person?
This is where I go back to once more ask,
Who am I? Why am I Here?

Do I have a special role to play in this life,
this Universe? I don’t mean to infer that I am
special, tho I guess we all are in a way.
We all have our idiosyncrasies.

The Lord knows I have mine. I guess
I will leave them for someone else to talk about.
Now, hear me dear reader of this
concoction of words.

If you know me and follow what I have writ
you maybe understand what I am about. I am not sure
yet that I do. Seems like all that I have
writ here is not meaningful at all.

Still, it bothers me, more than a bit,
that I can sit at my writing machine and pour out
words, some of which come from
I don’t know where.

Then, I step into the real world and become ~ mute.
Back and forth I wander, between two worlds, so it seems
to me, my friend. Does any human know:
WHO I am? or WHY I am here?

If I have a mission in this Universe,
Or am I doing my job ~ or tying it up as complete?
If so I’ll be happy ~ I’ll stay
with it a while.

O’ one thing I might mention while I’m on the stump

Keep love in your heart for your fellow man
Be he in rags or in riches, up or be down
One never knows, which one you will be
It could be a pauper, or, one of renown

You See?

Changing Times

At the age of 93, he was still open to learning ~ still open to change.

Changing Times

The hour hand just plods along,
The minute hand speeds up the march,
The second hand rushes on.
They work together to make the day.
And so go we — hour on hour,
To follow the clock of time.
Should we pattern our life that way,
Never changing — just plod along,
As the hour hand on the clock?
Let’s take a moment now and then,
To look ahead — to see what’s new.
Don’t set a pattern and forget it
As we set the clock of time,
Our life’s patterns are ever changing.
We must change
With the changing times.

As you know, my Dad, Charles E. Frost, passed away on December 31st, 2013. He loved life. More than life he loved every living creature on this earth. He spent every waking moment, as well as those he spent in slumber and his dreams, wishing only for a way to help people understand the joy of loving and sharing the beauty of life. He did not want to be famous. He only wanted to share his thoughts and feelings with as many people as possible. Through this blog he was able to begin this process. He truly wanted to have his poems and stories made available in book form as well as his blog. Unbeknown to him, his first book was in process thanks to many hours of dedication and hard work by his Grandson (Bruce E Frost II). Titled simply Book of Words, Poems and Stories from the Eastern Window – Volume 1, his book went to print one (1) week after his passing. It will be made available at cost (no profit to his estate) to those who desire to procure a copy. More information will be made available shortly.

I truly believe that He, along with his wife Alma and his son Warren, are together again. His first wish has been granted. His love for Alma (his wife of 71 years) was unfaltering as was his love for all of his family. His second wish has also been granted. His work will continue to be available to all those here on this earth. In addition he has asked that I continue The Nether Folk Story. I do not profess to have the talents my Dad had but I do promise to do my best to fulfill his request. He was not only my Dad, but he was truly my best friend.

He looked forward to seeing his words read each day and loved your comments. I hope you continue to enjoy his works, and even more importantly, that you continue to comment with your thoughts. He is with his loving wife and son and above all else he is with his Lord and Savior. Thank you, Dad.

Charles E. Frost passed away at 4:50Pm on December 31, 2013. This poem was written for him today. His love of life and people transcends his passing and will shine as a beacon for all eternity.

No more days in this year
New ones start tomorrow
With them come great joy
With them come great sorrow

Dad was finishing his 98th
He will not make it 99
He has gone to be with loved ones
And now it is his time

The sorrow is for all of us
Who had him in our life
The joy is for our Dad
In his rejoining with his wife

The suffering has ended
No more sadness, no more pain
Now he’ll have eternity in heaven
No greater gift can one attain

98 years of love and teaching
98 years he gave to us
He enriched our every moment
He taught our hearts to feel and trust

This will be his glorious journey
The great reunion comes at last
They will all be there to greet him
As some day will all the rest

Staying Free

‘Tis a new day, yesterday’s gone with any sadness.
I’ve brushed all traces of disgruntlement away
And all are at one hundred percent. Please accept
And laugh it all off, if you will, may yer problems be nil.

I be shipshape and I be on even keel. That be me spiel
With the lesson I learned on that dae, I can sail any sea.
Be the waters smooth or unsettled, I’ll be certain to deal
With all that may come my way, I will sail the ocean free.

Through my reading and writing and living and listening
I’ve avoided hardships that could have put me on a spree.
Reading and writing are essential, living is all of your life
Listening is all important to learning, keeping you free.

There you be my friends. Take it for what it be worth
This be just a day out of me life that I offer to you as my
Say. Good luck, fortune fair. Sail your seas as you may,
Keeping in mind, those that come after, the game of life

You will teach them to play.

It’s Time

It’s time to share my feelings
And tell how happy you make me.
It’s time to yell “I love you”
And say “I know that you love me”.

It’s time for hugs and touching
And the feeling of your warmth,
To thank you for my being
And for guiding me through storms.

It’s time to let you know that all I am
Is because of all that you gave me.

It’s not only time for memories
But also time to make some more.
It’s time to take the present days
And find even newer joys in store

Let’s find some more together
Let’s smile and laugh and dance.
Let’s take this as a challenge
And not leave it all to chance.

And also as we walk these roads together
It’s important that you always know.

I’m filled with pride with all the memories
Of all the wondrous times we’ve had
I’m filled with pride of all we’ve done together
But I’m most proud that you’re my Dad

It’s time to smile and share our love.

I Love You, Dad

I dream of things as they used to be.
Some, I still wish they were, but, time
Does not stand still for you or for me.
Let’s take a look at your life or mine.

It stands, I can answer for only myself
But knowin’ you as I do, I will gamble
A dollar or two. You ken how I’ve felt
About you. My trust is just a sample.

We give and we take one of another
Without question or a bit of a doubt.
Our lives are entangled, be as it may,
We’ve arrived at a threshold I say.

You had your dreams, I’ve had mine.
Both have challenged the world in our
Time. Together now, we are ready to
Travel on as one. That may double the

Fun. Great minds think alike ‘tis said.
That may be true said I, looking ahead
Into my mind with a prayer, asking
My God, that good judgement be there.

Friend, we have traveled together,
To here and there and anon, shared
The good and the bad, joy and travail.
We’ve hit the high road, as far as we’ve dared.

We’ll drink of this life ’til we empty the pail.
