Hi folks y’all dropped by tonight
Just as you usually do to say hi
And fill me in on your day, then
Inquire as to mine. I’ll not lie.
I sort of have the blues, can’t
Say why but all is brighter now.
You smiled and said, how’s
Tricks, whatcha got for chow.
These familiar ’asks’ are half
Gone by. There was the time
‘How’s tricks’ was as a song
By Warren sung as a rhyme.
He, my second son, has passed.
I have my grandson, Sean
Who claims the remaining half,
“What’s for chow” – an eater born.
I weep as I reminisce and recall
Warren’s sly greeting, I rebuffed
But now desire to hear once more,
“Hi Pop” but never-more enough.
Dear God, if and when you take me
To your home, please have Warren
There to meet me with a sign that
Reads, “Hi Pop”, You are Home.
