Many times in the latter years of my life, I have heard
What is the secret of, a long married life? I have
A stock answer, only one. It is the only one, it is true
Love as expressed in the marriage vows. Me for you,
You for me, ‘til death do us part. Those words from the
Heart and soul, will go a long way to keep you whole.
Commit to them every hour of each day faithfully
To the end, and you may feel you have met your goal.
This is a partnership where love plays the larger part,
Along with honesty, to one another now and forever.
One will not be true without the lever of true love;
Conversely it will serve the partnership to sever.
I’ve writ my answer as best I can, the rest I leave
For the reader. I offer this. Our marriage lasted for
Seventy-one years, short just a few days. I will tear
Forever her passing. I like to think, I passed the test.
Jesus I know You are fair and forgiving. If I failed
Along the way, perhaps if and when I get to You and
You find I have sinned, give me a job where I can wipe
It away ~ ~ I just have to be with my loved one again.
Now, I wonder, do I have time enough left upon this
Planet to secure an answer to my problem or must
I turn once more to prayer and You, my Jesus,
Before I turn to dust.
I can wait but do not want to leave this all to chance.
My life here on earth has been a very happy one
With my Wife And beyond, but now I fear the consequences.
This world as it stands is turning upside down.
Please Jesus, do not throw me in the melting pot.
I’ll do any job You may find for me that will take me
Home to You and my wife
And do it honorably.
