Christmas is for children, I agree,
but can we come to terms on this.
Old folks do have wishes, you see,
they’re not the same as for kids.
Life changes as years tick away.
Kids can’t sleep in anticipation.
With the elders, it may be fixation
what they can buy, how to pay.
Still, There is a brighter side, the
joy and satisfaction of giving.
To see a child’s face light up with
anticipation of the unwrapping to
find what is inside. The room is
filled with screaming laughter
of children and the adults join in.
It’s a melee, none asking quarter.
Hey! Johnny got a fire engine,
Marianne got a kewpie doll,
all the kids are happy as can be.
I don’t see Santa Claus at all.
What’s that racket on the roof?
Bells are ringing everywhere.
Listen, there is a Ho! Ho! Ho!
Santa Claus is here.
I wish all a merry Christmas
and a very happy New Year.
