Yet you are with me through the day,
Through the night and early dawn.
You watch over me and stand with me
Against those who’d lead me wrong.
I do not know you, yet to you I pray
To you as if by rote, for all my needs.
I think I must have met you before,
When I was thought of as just a seed.
I have to get to know you, please help
Me if you will. I feel so like a wanderer
Without someone, or someplace to go.
I try to understand why, I just flounder,
Bent here on my knees, praying,
To someone I do not know or haven’t met
Asking favors which I did not deserve.
Well, I’ve said all there is to say, and yet,
I’ll go on praying to, The One I do not
Know. He has powers beyond belief,
Well, Believe me, I know, He answers every
Prayer, be they from fear or relief from grief.
