Just the other day, a friend, I chanced to meet.
He knew my life’s history, I knew his as well.
He asked, how are you, a simple inquiry,
That caught me quite unaware, my face fell.
You see of late, things could have been better
But why complain to him, maybe spoil his day.
My friend went on to tell me of his troubles.
As he did my heart got lighter, I felt almost gay.
I guess he must have felt my interest wane.
That was not true. I just thought, of my lows
And there’s a man, a friend in need of solace.
Did I let him down by not listening to his woes?
Sure, I had my problems that have kept apace
To keep me in the race for ups and downs;
But, complaining to others does not help a bit,
Nor does it create joy, to see always a frown.
I’ve promised me, to laugh away my troubles
In the presence of others, not ever sneer at theirs,
Help them, if I can, we all are brothers after all.
We can and will together, grin and share our cares.
