HEY! is the greeting now, where
Once it used to be, Good Mornin’
Jim, Joe, or Marianne, how’s tricks?
It’s no different, if it’s stormin’
Now, Hey takes the place of all.
Wait now, I am not a teacher,
Of the old or modern speech
It is just an observation of how
We speak. All the same isn’t it
Amazing, well, it sure is to me,
How quickly our language is
Changing now, week after week.
I spoke of this the other day to
One much younger than I. He
Said, dad, you’re old fashioned.
Hear me, listen to me good. The
Talk abruptly ended, you wonder,
Why? The whippersnapper called
Me dad, I am not his dad but
If I were – ’ I guess I’d let it go.
All said and done, I could by age,
Be so, more than twice. Lord,
Ain’t I the lucky one, to live
And see the changes made,
Yet, be able to look back and,
See how good things were for me.
I thank you God, for, ‘shucks’
‘Heck’, all those blasphemys
That preceded me.
