Habits formed early in life
Become part of one’s every day.
That is the way it’s been for me,
Wouldn’t have it any other way.
No alarm clock, just in my head.
No tarrying, maybe just a little
That clock is insistent as can be.
One ring only, the clock is not fickle.
It ticks only to its own little rules.
Feet on the floor, it asks no more
Tarrying would be just for fools.
A fool I may be, I don’t keep score
Many years have gone by, I have
No need for alarm clocks in my
Head. I require much more sleep
But I lie here awake and just sigh.
I cannot throw that clock away, it’s
Served me for a lifetime it seems.
Ah well, take a rest, clock o’ mine,
You will probably check in on my dreams.
